Every couple of months, I want to publish a blog post from my life besides my job and today’s datacenter virtualization. Today, I want to share some pictures of my latest trip.
About 2 weeks ago, we finally made our first road trip with the Bus (1972 VW Bay Windows Bus).
Our destination was Yosemite National Park in California.
Right after work on Thursday, we started our trip towards Wawona, CA, where our first campsite was.
Wawona has a pretty small campground, which often has some last-minute spots available. With only 27 miles away from Yosemite Valley, Wawona is a great spot to avoid the busy Valley.
After our first night, we drove to Yosemite Valley and went for our first hikes.
After a disappointing hike to Bridalveil Falls, with no water, we’ve decided to hike to Lower Yosemite Falls. The hike took about 30 – 45 minutes and ended at a beautiful natural pool, below Yosemite Falls. I hope I don’t have to mention, that we took swim in it and it was totally worth it.
We spent our second night at Crane Flat, just north of Yosemite Valley. After we arrived very late at our first campsite, we had decided to leave Yosemite Valley on this day and have a BBQ at our campsite.
The next morning, we packed our gear and drove back to Yosemite Valley for a 4 hour hike.
We’ve decided to go the Top of Vernal Falls. This was a 2.4 miles hike with a 1000 feet elevation gain.
The hike to Vernal Falls was steep and exhausting, as
you can see on the picture above. Compared to Lower Yosemite Falls, Vernal Falls had much more water left. Vernal Falls had also a much bigger natural pool, which was also much colder but without hesitation, I still dipped in and went for a swim.
Hi Jan,
My wife and I just bought a 1971 VW bus, and plan to drive it to Yosemite next spring. Sounds like you had a great trip. Did you have any trouble with taking your VW bus up any hills? I’m sure it was a little slow going. Just have never been up that way ourselves yet…
Thanks
